Sparta, New Jersey, April 17, 2025
Last month, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) posted information about the recall of a major brand of detergent because of microbial contamination concerns. Three lots of the detergent are part of the recall, which includes over 16,000 bottles. The product was sold exclusively through a major online retailer back in January.
According to the CPSC notice:
The recalled products can contain Pseudomonas species bacteria, including Pseudomonas oleovorans, an environmental organism found widely in soil and water. People with weakened immune systems or external medical devices who are exposed to the bacteria face a risk of serious infection that may require medical treatment. The bacteria can enter the body through the eyes or through a break in the skin. People with healthy immune systems are usually not affected by the bacteria.
Fortunately, at the time of the recall posting, there had been no reports of infections. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled lots and to contact the manufacturer for a refund.
